Am I the only person in the whole wide universe (ok… world) who feels that Daylight savings time just flat out feels more normal that what they call “Standard time”? I just like it better. It feels natural. Maybe it fits my circadian rhythms (HA!). We had a discussion about them this past week at our house. What? You didn’t?!
Maybe it’s because it means winter is pretty much over and I’m good with that. I get crazy (umm.. some might say cranky is a better word) about this point and I’m ready to dig in the dirt. And I’m going to dig in the dirt this year. I LOVE Spring! Absolutely love it. I can’t wait to have the windows open and have a good breeze blowing through the house.
I’m ready for Green too. Green in the trees… more daffodils than crazy early bloomers who thought it was time to bloom and who have now been frozen for their efforts (frustrates me every time! See… I get cranky.) But in a few weeks we’ll have daffodils everywhere and then tulips and azaleas AND COLOR! YEAH! That’s exactly what I need. Color.

But it starts this weekend with a little Spring forward.

A tag going around facebook had me wondering “What IS on MY bucket list.” Some of the things on that list are… some of them aren’t. The great thing is, I’ve done some of the things on the list…. but I’ve added to it. So. In no particular order. My list.
I’m sure there’s more that I could put on the list. What’s on your list? Maybe there’s things on your list I’ll end up adding to my own. And by the way…. Tag.

Whether you set resolutions or not, it’s tough not to reflect at the beginning of the new year. We look back on the previous year and take stock. Where were we this time last year? Are we better now than we were then? They often lead to what we can do to improve things that might not be as good as we’d like.
I began to think about this a month ago as changes started to happen with my calling. About the time I was released I saw this post over at I Believe in Miracles where she asks if you’ve picked a word for the year. Just one word to focus on for the year. Hmmm… Oh, yeah. That got me thinking, to be sure.
Then there were many other posts as New Year’s Eve approached. As I read this one over at Segulla about “Playing Big” my word started to come into focus. Something I’ve felt lacking in me.
I need to connect. Connect through service, listening, and, if prompted, shared experiences. I want to connect more with my family, to listen more to their needs. I want to feel closer to the family that isn’t near – and there are a lot of them. This is going to take some creativity (especially with all of the changes happening in our family at the moment). To connect with friends, old and new. And in connecting to share their burdens and hopefully make them lighter.
Hopefully, if I “connect” more, it will be one thing that will help me shine a little brighter.
What are your thoughts for the New Year?
My hope for all is that you find joy and laughter through any situation and circumtance.

Over 2 years ago I was given the assignment to be the president of our church’s Primary organization. This organization is for children 18 months to 11 years old and there were around 40 children there each week. I wasn’t prepared for the rush of love that I felt for every single one of those children. And I knew when I was called that there would come a day when it would be someone else’s turn.
That day was today. Next week it will be her turn to listen as they sing, “Once There was a Snowman!” lightening fast or “I am A Child of God” as the last song of the day. It will be her turn to make sure to call on one of the children to say the opening prayer. It will be her turn to listen as they tell her about their Christmas.
She’ll be wonderful.
I will miss them, but it was time.
Next week I will try not to cause too much of a disruption in Sunday School with my husband.

I saw this tag on Della’s Blog and it’s kind of interesting to go through and both see what you HAVE done and what you’ve chosen NOT to do. Or maybe you just haven’t had the opportunity…. It made me think a little… Ok… everything makes me think.
The things I’ve done are in bold. Feel free to swipe the tag for your own and take inventory yourself.
I’m thinking there are still a ton of things left for me to learn and see (Ok… Rock climbing… SOOOOoo not going to happen).
What have you done? What would you add to the list? (For instance – Going to see Wicked completed a lifelong dream of mine to see a Broadway musical.) What dreams have you completed? What dreams do you still have yet to finish? Hmmm…
See? It made me think.

I spent the morning finalizing my research. Like I hadn’t heard enough right? I didn’t look at the presidential candidates. My choice there was decided long ago. State and local elections could be just as interesting where I am. So I started with my local newspaper to view the whole cast of characters. Some of them are indeed characters. I read through lots of issues on a lot of websites and I’ve made my decisions.
This will be the first year that G. will get to vote as well. It’s been cool watching him put his opinion together on what’s important to him and why he will vote.
So what’s important to you? Whatever it isand whatever your decision… GO VOTE! You matter.

I love General Conference. I’ll post more later I’m sure, but the first session was so amazing I just couldn’t wait to post a few of the things that were stand-outs for me. (These aren’t all quotes. Some have to do with the topic of the speaker’s talk)
I am so glad that someone over at Segullah issued the Challenge to think of specific questions before Conference and then we’d meet back and discuss the answers. I didn’t write them down. And truthfully, my questions weren’t even all that specific (Ok, I did have one specific thing that I may talk about when Conference is over), but just the very act of thinking about them helped focus my thoughts.
And yes, I’ve gotten some answers already.

Most mornings I’m awake well before the sun even thinks of getting up. When I’m at Girls’ Camp I even manage to do this without the aid of an alarm clock.
Most mornings I love listening to the world wake up. Even traffic sounds different in the morning than at night. There seems to be a hushed quality to it. I know. Crazy.
Most mornings I love watching the sky change colors. No two mornings are ever the same. Some are cloudy and as the sun rises it burns through in sections giving just a peek at the day ahead. Some have just a touch of puffy clouds allowing the sun to create something better than a silver lining, a gold lining, as it rises. Other mornings there is just a bit of mist around some of the fields giving an ethereal stopped-in-time quality to the moment. They’re just never the same. It’s awesome.
Most mornings I get a chance to read, or work on files, catch up some work, plan seating diagrams, go grocery shopping… take your pick …all by 8am. I am indeed the most productive in the morning.
NOT THIS morning. THIS morning I was tired. THIS morning the alarm went funky in the middle of night and went off at 3:30am instead of 5:00. So THIS morning was more like, “DANG it!” and “What the heck?!” Then once I got things going for everyone else, I tried to catch a few more Zs. Because THIS morning? This morning I didn’t want to be a morning person.

If you’ve blogged for any time at all you’ve heard of tagging… Here’s one that makes you think just a bit. And just to share the love – consider yourself tagged (that’s how I got it, so it’s only fair! – and let me know if you don’t mind so I can read your reponses. That’s the fun in these things anyway!)
1. If every job paid $50,000 a year, and you had no physical or mental limitations, what would you do?
Probably what I’ve decided to do – Graphics Design. When I was younger I wanted to be a Robotics Engineer. Honestly – I’m not sure there is enough visual creativity with that job. Although I really enjoy reading about where technology is progressing and how it works. I like learning how DVD’s are made and why the newest memory is faster than the old memory and how many processes it’s able to perform. Most of what I’ve learned is from reading magazines. The math I’d have to take at this point scares me because I DO have mental limitations.
2. What is your current church calling? What do you like about it? What have some of your other callings been?
My current calling is Primary President. That means I get to run around church most weeks like a crazy woman. It also means I get to sing the best songs our church has to offer and hear our children sing them. Some weeks I’m not really sure why I’m in this calling unless it’s to learn things from the amazing women I’ve had a chance to work with as counselors. And I have NO idea what I’d do without my secretary, or the teachers, or cub leaders – lets face it. I’m just there if THEY need me.
The majority of my callings have been working with the children in Primary. I’ve served as Chorister (a few times), Den Leader, Cubmaster, and a counselor in the Presidency. I’ve also done the ward bulletin, served as a couselor in YW presidency (a long time ago when I was barely out of YW myself) and a RS instructor for ooooohhh 3 months. I just figure my graduation certificate was revoked and I’ll always be in Primary.
3. Name a person you regularly encounter (outside your family) who brightens your day.
Good Grief – *ONE Person* – Ok.. Eli… He never fails to brighten my day. He has the best smile. But you know so does Lynnea – Shoot. And there’s Gabriel. So they’re all under 2 years old. Shoot me. I dare you to get around any of them, look at the expressions on their faces and not crack up.
4. In twenty years, what do you think you will miss most about your life now?
Sitting and watching TV shows with my family. I’m not sure how we got like we did (maybe we did start it young) but some of best times are just sitting and watching shows together as a family. We have a blast and invaribly quotes will fly at other times that fit other situations in our day to day life that we all get because we’ve watched the shows together.
5. What’s something you appreciate about your spouse?
Lately, his patience. There is so much more I need to be doing and could do better at the moment and he’s supporting me while things are crazy at this time of year in Primary. He’s pretty cool.
6. What is your favorite routine, household chore?
Um, yeah. That whole thing I could be doing better? That would go here.
7. What’s a book you return to occasionally (besides the scriptures.)
It’s been aeons since I read a book twice. Movies, sure. Books, not so much. Give me a good series though and that’s a little different. I pick authors, not really books to return to. So with that in mind Julie Kenner, Sarah Strohmeyer, Nancy Martin, Janet Evanovich, Jennifer Chiaverini – those are just some of my lastest favorites. I’ve read many more.
8. Favorite Small Pleasures:
I will absolutely admit that I love how that first burst of chocolate tastes and it’s even better when combined with raspberry or orange.
Watching the look in a child’s eyes when they really get it.
Hearing a baby giggle.
Getting a hug from Kevin.
9. Favorite time of the day?
The time of day just before sunrise when the only thing stirring are the birds (and possibly crazy toddlers). I love watching the light play across the sky and feel the earth wake up. I think better in the morning and always get more done then that at any other time of day.
10. Name a person who performed what they thought was a small act of service, but ended up being a big deal to you:
Michele McCallister. There was a point where it wasn’t so easy to get to church but I knew that’s where I wanted to be. Some Sundays I didn’t make it. I always knew that I was going to get a phone call on Monday from Michele and if the reason I stayed home wasn’t a good reason she was going to give me heck for it. And she wasn’t my visiting teacher.
11. Name someone who somehow changed your life.
Hmmmm….(I’ve now been sitting here for 20 minutes trying to figure out which person to put for the answer.) I’m going to have to say Kevin. Aside from my parents he’s probably had the biggest impact on my life. He’s who I turn to for advice, my sounding board for ideas (and he’s honest about what he thinks about them something I appreciate – he also helped me realize that just because he doesn’t like it doesn’t mean I shouldn’t do it that way.)
12. Consider what you do each day. Think of one attribute or trait that you bring to your daily work that is a strength—what is something you do really well?
I’m creative. I’m fairly good at what I call the “drop back and punt”. If something isn’t going to fly the way it was originally planned then there has to be a way to accomplish the task and do what needs to be done even if that means thinking a little outside the box. I still get stressed, but if I really believe that something is supposed to happen then I’ll look for a way to make sure it does.
